MARYLAND DELEGATION MEMBERS ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $3.1 MILLION FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAMS

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer and John Sarbanes (all D-Md.) today announced $3,145,447 in federal funding to expand early childhood education programs and family health services at the YMCA of Central Maryland and the Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee, Inc.

"This new federal funding will help strengthen early learning opportunities and enhance development programs for children in Maryland's low-income families," the lawmakers said. "In addition to these funds, Team Maryland was proud to fight for over $11 million in Head Start funding for Maryland through the American Rescue Plan. As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, Team Maryland will continue to invest in early childhood education to eliminate learning disparities and create new opportunities for our children to succeed."

The $3,145,447 award comes from the Office of Head Start through the Department of Health and Human Services and will be distributed as follows:

YMCA of Central Maryland -- $1,723,641
Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee, Inc.-- $1,421,806
